ED&DI: Luang Prabang

Our next stop is Luang Prabang on the bank of the Mekong river, only 400km north from Vientiane but the bus takes more than 10 hours! We tried to take a flight but all of them were fully booked, so we have no choice.
The road to Luang Prabang is a small, country road through the high mountains with a lot of curves and now we understand why it takes so long time.
The landscape and the views were really beautiful, but the trip had some moments of horror!
In few places more then half of the road was missing because of landslides, but the bus driver just drove over almost with two wheels in the air! Imagine that down there was more than 500 m.
When we finally reached Luang Prabang we got a big surprise, we expected everything but not a town like this in the middle of nowhere, with nice charming houses, proper foot ways and roads, many dainty restaurants nice decorated and the guesthouses which could cost 100 or 200 USD.
The only habited places we passed on the way to Luang Prabang were small groups of bamboo houses where people had only one place to take water (made by Australians help org or Rotary) where people were washing themselves on the side on the road.
So imagine our surprise!

Nuestra siguiente parada es Luang Prabang en la ribera del rio Mekong, a solo 400 km al norte de Vientiane pero en autocar se tarda mas de 10 horas! Tratamos de volar pero todos los vuelos estaban completos asi que no teniamos eleccion.
La carretera hacia Luang Prabang es como la antigua carretera entre Benalmadena y Mijas Pueblo atravez de altas montañas y con muchas curvas y ahora si que entendemos porque se tarda mas de 10 horas.
El terreno y las vistas eran impresionantes, pero el viaje tenia sus momentos de terror.
En algunos lugares mas de la mitad de la calzada habia desaparecido por desprendimientos y quedaba un precipicio de unos 500 m. El conductor de bus las atravesaba casi con dos ruedas en el aire.
Cuando finalmente llegamos a LP recibimos una gran sorpresa. Esperabamos cualquier cosa pero no un pueblo como este en medio de la nada, con encantadoras casas, aceras y calles bien hechas, bonitos restaurantes muy bien decorados y donde una habitacion en pequeños hoteles podia costar 100 a 200 dolares US.
Los unicos lugares habitados que pasamos en nuestro viaje a LP fueron pequeñas agrupaciones de casas de bamboo donde la unica fuente de agua era un pozo realizado por una ONG y donde la gente se lavaba en publico al lado de la carretera.
Asi que imaginense nuestra sorpresa!

Nasz nastepny cel to Luang Prabang nad Mekongiem, oddalony od Vientiane tylko 400km na polnoc, ale podroz autobusem zajmuje ponad 10 godzin! Probowalismy wziac samolot,ale ku naszemu zdziwieniu nie bylo wolnych miejsc, wiec nie mielismy wyboru.
Droga do Luang Prabang jest mala, kreta i waska i prowadzi przes wysokie gory, wiec teraz rozumiemy dlaczego podroz zajmuje 10 godzin.
Krajobraz i widoki byly naprawde piekne, ale podroz nie odbyla sie bez chwil grozy.
W niektorych miejscach brakowalo wiecej niz polowy jezdni z powodu obsuniecia sie zbocza,a kierowca nie zwazajac na to, bez mrugniecia okiem przejezdzal nad przepascia, majac prawie dwa kola w powietrzu. Wyobrazcie sobie,ze przepasc miala dobre 500m.
Kiedy dotarlismy w koncu do Luang Prabang zostalismy bardzo zaskoczeni, moglismy spodziewac sie wszystkiego, ale nie takiego miasteczka jak te, polozone tam gdzie "psy szczekaja dupami".
Miasteczko z ladnymi domkami, porzadnymi chodnikami i jezdniami, wieloma fajnymi restauracjami i gdzie male hoteliki mogly kosztowac 100 albo 200 dollarow US.
Po drodze do Luang Prabang widzielismy tylko male, biedne zgrupowania bambusowych domow, gdzie ludzie pobierali wode ze studni, zrobionych prze australijskie organizacje pomocy i ludzie myli sie publicznie na skraju drogi z tego jedynego punktu skad czerpali wode.
Wiec wyobrazcie sobie nasze zdziwienie!
